2021 Priorities

Priorities of the ITF Association are set annually by the membership in November of each year.  In addition to specific actionable items, the list also includes items the ITF Association monitors through regular review of statistical and other information as well as initiatives that support member development. 


Tier 1 – Actionable Priorities 

  1. Participation in review of WCB Legislation, policies and procedures; implementation of Bill 47 changes (replacing OTR obligation, termination of employment while on modified work); proactively identify issues for review (continuation of TPD payments, Rehab Services, EFP payments)
  2. Review quality of service impacts, costs and implications of legislative, policy and operational changes, as well as consistency and appropriateness of claim decisions
  3. Psychological Injuries – collaborate with WCB to identify issues and revise policy, procedures, processes and practices
  4. WCB Accident Fund - identify issues affecting sustainability and collaborate on solutions
  5. Invitation of guests to ITF Association meetings (WCB Board of Directors Chair & members, Appeals Commissioner, AIMCo CEO & Board Chair)
  6. Engagement with government through attendance at meetings and in other forums
  7. Review of the WCB Funding Policy and Pricing Programs
  8. Joint WCB/OHS Reporting System - pursue stakeholder consultation and risk identification
  9. Explore opportunities for raising awareness among Alberta employers regarding WCB account/case management and cost containment strategies; reduce the financial impact of ELP’s
  10. Recruitment of new members


Tier 2 – Monitoring Priorities 

  1. Cost Relief - fair & consistent application; COVID cost relief
  2. WCB Data integrity – reliability and usefulness of stats for OH&S reporting and WCB processes
  3. Workplace Health & Safety funding and budget; changes to other levies
  4. Appeals Commission statistics, procedures and processes; transfer of Appeals Advisors & Medical Panel function; level of employer awareness
  5. WCB Strategic Business plan & Strategy Map results
  6. Effectiveness of the Policy Consultation Advisory Group
  7. Physician Engagement & Accountability – medical reporting quality & timelines, education in RTW process, impact of move to electronic reporting & fee schedule changes
  8. Occupational Diseases – expansion of criteria and/or presumption
  9. Opportunities for engagement with the WCB Labor Coalition
  1. Ecomonic Loss Payments - impact and effectiveness of the TOJ program


Tier 3 – Member Education


  1. Facilitate sharing of expertise among ITF Association members
  2. Incorporation of educational opportunities and resources in the Members only Website
